Rehabilitation for The Disabled

For the first time in Greece, a group intervention program called “Taking care of myself, I care” was completed in the Infants’ Center of ELEPAP. During the 8 group sessions, the parents who participated were introduced to the philosophy of the program which is based on the “Nurturing Parents- A Mindfulness Based Parenting Program”. It is a program designed for the parents who experience various stressful situations because of their parental role and responsibilities they have.
The parents were trained in Mindfulness techniques in order to learn how to manage their stress, how to focus on the present moment and how to take care of themselves. This way, they will be able to take care of others and enjoy more their daily life.  Specifically, the parents were taught how to observe their thoughts, how not to judge themselves and how to accept the daily things that come up through focusing on their breath, concentrating on their bodies sensations, keeping diaries of mindful activities and many other Mindfulness techniques. The program was designed by Eluned Gold, an internationally renowned psychology-teacher of Mindfulness, from the Bangor University, one of the top Mindfulness Universities and it was applied by Andrikopoulou Alexandra, social worker of ELEPAP- Family Therapist, MSc Counseling Psychology, who was educated in Athens and London in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Nurturing Parents-A mindfulness Based Parenting Program.
Each group and each session is a unique experience for all the participants which helps them recognize that their feelings and their thoughts are inextricably linked with the experiences of their daily lives, especially when the family baby needs increased care and each mother “is called to coordinate a harmonious and functional domestic environment for everybody”!! With the commitment to continue to apply the Mindfulness techniques by devoting a few minutes to themselves each day and with a message written with the words of their favorite song that they want to share with their children like the lyrics of the song
Everybody Hurts by R.E.M
If you think you've had too much
Of this life
Well, hang on
'Cause everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts
Don't throw your hand
Oh, no
Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone
No, no, no, you're not alone
they will continue to support the program and become mentors for the new parents who will attend it. The 2 new rounds of sessions that will begin at February are open for the parents of the Infants’ Center of ELEPAP.
Your only obligation is to commit that you are going to “take care of yourself”!
